![]() Follow the paths of several distinct factions – each with their own questionable methods and uncertain motivations – as unforeseen consequences intersect and reality once again slips back into a brilliant haze of neon and bloodshed.īlistering combat against punishing opposition will require intense focus as new variables, weapons, and methods of execution are introduced throughout the struggle. I think it's mediocre.Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is the brutal conclusion to the Hotline Miami saga, set against a backdrop of escalating violence and retribution over spilled blood in the original game. The story is worse, the mystery is gone, the gameplay is worse, and the level design is bad.įor me, I'd say 5/10. Hotline Miami's steam score, according to a google search, is actually a 10/10. It's a stark contrast and actually feels more fun then just killing people. Instead of killing people, you just dislocate their bones, smack them in the face with golf clubs, and unload their guns. I do like Evan Wright's non-violence route. There are long hallways, tons of windows, tons of fat guys, and the maps are just generally big for no reason. In Hotline Miami 2, however, it's mostly void of that. In Hotline Miami, you had small and compact buildings where people would stand around in obscure corners or walk around small rooms which you could clear out by running in. The level design is also what brings down the gameplay. Enemies will glitch when standing up, enemies will be hidden in bushes, there will be impossible patrol routes (Demolition being a notable example.) Dennaton wanted to make the game harder, and I understand that, but they could've expanded upon the weapons and player, not the enemy placement. Hotline Miami's fast-paced and fair combat was what made it fun, but here in Hotline Miami 2, it's kind of the opposite. It's a sequel to Hotline Miami, so it should've been built upon the foundation of the first game, right? Technically, yes, but I felt like instead of building upon it, they added a few new rooms, some new paint, and an attic dweller who steals your food while you're sleeping. That's all I can really say about the story, though. He would've done anything as his Mom was presumably the only family he had left. ![]() I like that.Īll of us can agree that Richter became redeemable in Hotline Miami, but in here, he's painted in such a different light that it really just makes you feel bad for punching him when replaying Hotline Miami. They were best buddies who survived a war together. Jacket was no longer a vessel, and Beard was no longer just the shop owner friend. I liked the humanization of Jacket and Beard. I think there are some good parts to the story, though. So, when there's no more mystery, like I said, it loses it's charm that the previous game had. The lose ends being left up for interpretation was what kept the community going between Hotline Miami and Hotline Miami 2. It loses it's charm of wondering what happens when the mystery is solved for every character. But in Hotline Miami 2, Dennaton attempts to tie up every lose end. You don't know what happened to Beard, who Richter really was, what happened to Biker, and what happened to Jacket. What made Hotline Miami so special was not only its bright neon colors and adrenaline-inducing gameplay, but it's mystery in the story. I think this game really puts the emphasis on the title Wrong Number because a 9/10 is, in my opinion, a bad score. Then I got Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number. Patience was rewarding, but so was running in like an idiot with a Rooster mask on. All the levels feel compact, and being able to just run in and whack everyone to death with a golf club felt invigorating. Whenever I boot up Hotline Miami, I feel a rush of adrenaline.
